The Ikat technique combines dyeing and weaving. Originated in Indonesia and refined in India, this technique involves dyeing yarn using the tye&dye technique, one color at a time. The print emerges after the weave is woven manually on the loom. In the case of double ikat, both the weft and warp threads are dyed, and the more colors are incorporated into the print, the more complex and laborious the process becomes. Traditionally, this knowledge is transmitted from father to son, in families that have been dedicated to weaving for several generations.
