The wild tussar silk has its cocoons collected in the forests of Bihar and Jharkand, India. The larvae eat arjun and assan, plants endemic to the region, which gives the threads of this silk a golden hue. Unlike other silks, the larvae abandon the cocoons before they are collected and boiled, this means that the fibers have already broken, thus leaving the threads more irregular. Hence the more rustic aspect of this silk. Spun and woven almost always manually.
